Fox Group Promotes Nicole Bernard To EVP Audience Strategy

Nicole Bernard has been promoted to EVP Audience Strategy at The Fox Group, leading the charge at the department within 21st Century Fox tasked with identifying programming and operational opportunities that reflect diverse perspectives across all Fox platforms (film, broadcast and cable TV, and digital media). The move was announced by Joe Earley, Chief Operating Officer, Fox Television Group.
As head of the unit as SVP since 2011, Bernard has collaborated with senior leaders across 21st Century Fox’s Los Angeles-based entertainment business units in launching strategic initiatives to ensure that policies, content and operations reflect broadening audiences. That includes launching the Fox Writer’s Intensive. Most recently, she spearheaded the 21st Century Fox Global Directors Initiative, which focuses on cultivating emerging and established directors and amplifying female perspectives across features and episodic TV. She also helped launch the Fox-HBCU Media Alliance, aimed at engaging the African-American creative and executive workforce.

Howard University School of Communications Alumni!  
We are excited to share the good news- that we now have a chartered alumni association for SOC!  We are one of a very few professional alumni organizations within HUAA.  Our goal is to connect and engage alumni on all things related to SOC.

There are many updates to share, beginning with an Alumni Open House and Reception during Homecoming. We have scheduled a full afternoon of events for Homecoming on Friday, October 17th to take place in the CB Powell Building (see flyer posted above).  

There will be an Open House from 2-4 pm followed by a welcome reception in the lobby from 4-7 pm. This will provide an opportunity for you to learn about the innovative curricular changes resulting from restructuring of our school, reconnect with familiar faculty as well as meet our new dean, Dr. Gracie Lawson-Borders, and new faculty.

National News Engagement Day --  Oct. 7th
  
A national initiative to focus on news engagement is being led by the Association for Education on Journalism and Mass Communication (AEJMC).  National News Engagement Day -- Oct. 7th was highlighted by AEJMC President Paula Poindexter at a press conference last month at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C.

School of C  joins universities and others across the nation and globe observing news engagement Oct. 7th. Doctoral student Leticia Williams was on the AEJMC panel sharing her perspective on engaging with the news.
Howard University will be actively engaged:
  • Once class will exam the effects of poverty on young people, which continues to increase in the U.S.
  • Students in speech and pathology will use smartphones for interviews on communication disorders such as stuttering,  concussions and head injuries (#CSDNEWS14)
  • Students keeping online journals of top news stories  for online presentation on news engagement day
  • Reporting and Writing students covering 8 Wards in DC and Maryland will publish top stories that day
