Student-Produced Newscast NewsVision Returns to WHUT-TV Following President Obama Commencement Address Washington, D.C., (April 27, 2016) – “NewsVision,” a student-produced newscast, will return to WHUT-TV after a hiatus of more than 20 years, immediately following President Obama’s address at the 148th Commencement Convocation at Howard University on Saturday, May 7th. NewsVision is produced by broadcast journalism seniors in the Department of Media, Journalism and Film in the School of Communications in partnership with WHUT-TV a PBS station licensed to Howard University. The 30-minute newscast is the culmination of content written, reported and produced by journalists in the capstone course of the same name. It is scheduled to air at 12:30 p.m. following commencement. An encore presentation will broadcast at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, May 8th. SOC alum on Pulitzer Prize Team SOURCE: NABJ.org Keith Alexander, left, Wesley Lowery and Farah Stockman School of C alumnus Keith Alexander wins Pulitzer NABJ Congratulates 2016 Pulitzer Prize Winners The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) congratulates members Keith Alexande r, Wesley Lowery, and Farah Stockman for winning the Pulitzer Prize, journalism's most prestigious award.       The Washington Post  staff took the award for National Reporting, for creating and using a national database to illustrate how often and why the police shoot to kill and who the victims are most likely to be. Alexander and Lowery were both part of the team coverage.      Spurred by Lowery's proposal, the project grew into one of the largest in the newsroom's history, said Cameron Barr,  The Post's  managing editor for news. Making Good Connections SOC’s Vicci Saunders interviewed  Associate professor Vicci Saunders was interviewed recently on Grand Jury Confidential part of New York Festivals. Saunders is director of WHUR-World, HUR Voice and Sirius XM 141, to name a few of her many roles.  Regarding early influences on her career, she stated in the interview: “Storytelling. I love books, music, theatre, radio, television and film. Those methods of expression were electrifying and amazing to me.” Saunders shares that excitement as a professor who has mentored and supported a number of students and continues to guide them through their experience at Howard.
