Assistant professor Jami Ramberan  will be honored at the Mayor's Caribbean Community Recognition Awards on June 29th at the D.C. Commission on Arts & Humanities, 200 I St. SW, where she will screen her short film, Silent Brave.

Mayor’s Caribbean Community Recognition Awards

     You are cordially invited to join the Mayor’s Advisory Commission on Caribbean Community Affairs (MACCCA) in honoring outstanding members of Washington, DC’s Caribbean Community on Monday, June 29^th from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the DC Commission on Arts & Humanities located on 200 I (Eye) Street, SE, Washington, DC 20003 located near the Navy Yard Metro Station. 

    As you know, June is National Caribbean-American Heritage Month (CAHM), and MACCCA, under the guidance of the Mayor's Office on Community Affairs (MOCA), and with the support of the D.C. Commission on Arts and Humanities, is organizing a free, community event in June to recognize the contributions and legacy of the Caribbean-Americans to the culture, economy, and communities of Washington, D.C. This community celebration is free and open to the public; please feel free to share this invitation with anyone who may be interested in attending.

Alumni on the move

Alumna Ciara Allen's (2012) short film, Black and Blue, has been accepted into competition at the BlackStar Film Festival. This prestigious event takes place in Philadelphia starting July 30th. Ciara’s film Black and Blue is the story of a college-bound girl whose life is altered when her brother is drafted into service during the      Vietnam War. As the family's new breadwinner, she endures the reality of war and the volatile effect it has in her small town.

Washington, DC - The National Bar Association has announced the 2015 recipients of its 40 Under 40 Nation’s Best Advocates awards. The awards recognize the nation’s top lawyers under 40 who exemplify a broad range of high achievement, including in   innovation, vision, leadership and legal and community involvement.
