NCA Tribute to Dr. Melbourne Cummings The National Communication Association (NCA) conference in Chicago included "A Tribute to  Melbourne S. Cummings:  Celebrating over 40 years as Scholar, Professor, Mentor, NCA Leader, and Colleague." Friends, former graduate students and colleagues were on hand for two wonderful panels; one led by colleagues and her dissertation chair, and one of former graduate students, now colleagues in the discipline. Dr. Cummings retired in June 2014 from Howard; however, she continues to reach all of us who have been touched as student, colleague, mentor or friend. Book Notes Dr. Joan Payne , interim chair of Communication Sciences and Disorders was recognized with her new book at the American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) conference in Florida.

SOC ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT Fox Group Promotes Nicole Bernard To EVP Audience Strategy Nicole Bernard by  The Deadline Team October 6, 2014 10:38am Nicole Bernard  has been promoted to EVP Audience Strategy at The  Fox Group , leading the charge at the department within 21st Century Fox tasked with identifying programming and operational opportunities that reflect diverse perspectives across all Fox platforms (film, broadcast and cable TV, and digital media). The move was announced by Joe Earley, Chief Operating Officer, Fox Television Group. As head of the unit as SVP since 2011, Bernard has collaborated with senior leaders across 21st Century Fox’s Los Angeles-based entertainment business units in launching strategic initiatives to ensure that policies, content and operations reflect broadening audiences. That includes launching the Fox Writer’s Intensive. Most recently, she spearheaded the 21st Century Fox Global Directors Initiative, which focuses on cultivating emerging
