Alumnus Bebel receives award
D'Artagnan Bebel

Congratulations to Houston’s     FOX 26 Vice President and General Manager D'Artagnan Bebel on his Living Legend Award at the 18th Annual 2015 Men of Style Fashion Awards. D’Artagnan is an SOC alum who is a leader in the broadcasting industry and his community. The award recognizes

ASHA Awards to SOC Faculty
Joan C. Payne
Joan C. Payne  was awarded Honors of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) in November at the Association's annual convention in Denver, Colorado. Honors is the highest award given by ASHA for distinguished careers in speech-language pathology. Payne has a national and international reputation for her pioneering research on the effects of ethnic and cultural differences on brain-based disorders of communication in adults and on their caregivers. She is Professor and Interim Chair of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (COSD). She is the first Ph.D. alumnus from Howard University to receive this high honor.

Associate Professor Silvia Martinez received the Certificate of Recognition for Special Contributions in Multicultural Affairs at the ASHA conference in Denver. The award is for distinguished
achievement and contributions through significant recent accomplishments in speech-language pathology in multicultural professional education, multicultural research, and clinical service to multicultural populations.  Martinez was recognized for more than thirty years in the profession specializing in culturally and linguistically diverse populations.  She served as the ASHA Director of Multicultural Education and Practices and has held leadership positions in professional organization boards
addressing diversity issues.
