League Baseball Diversity Business Summit , New York
Two SOC students, Rikki Frohmader and Alexis Carter, played across center fieldat the MLB Diversity Business Summit in New York. They lined up good interviews and were seen networking throughout the Summit, which is in its third year. We would like to thank the MLB and the Washington Nationals for their support of our students.
White House Correspondence Association Student Winners
The 2014 winners of the White House Correspondence Association Scholarship (WHCA) are: Thema Fenderson, Victoria Walker and Glynn Hill. They will be recognized at the WHCA dinner May 3, 2014. We would also like to thank Carol Dudley for continuing to facilitate the scholarship at SOC. For information on last year's winners: http://www.whca.net/scholarships.htm
Journalism Scholarship Winners
Khari J. Arnold, a print journalism junior and Bianca J. Burns, a sophomore broadcast major in the School of Communications were two of four winners in the D.C. area of journalism scholarships. The Sigma Delta Chi Foundation of Washington, D.C., (SDX/DC), with the support of the Kiplinger Foundation and the Gridiron Club and Foundation awarded the scholarships. The students will share $15,000 in scholarships and will be honored at an awards reception in June by the Washington Professional Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), parent of the SDX/DC.
Howard "Graduate School Student" of the Year
Congratulations to Monique May, who has been named Howard’s "Graduate School Student of the Year.” Monique is a major in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (COSD), who will be receiving her master of science degree in speech-language pathology in May 2014.
Howard Happy Video Seen on OWN!
Congratulations to SOC senior Maia Miller. The RTVF major's "Howard Happy" video made it to Oprah's OWN TV on April 13th when Oprah interviewed recording artist Pharrell. She graduates in May and heads directly to France for the Cannes Film Festival. Kudos and you go girl to Mia!
