Secretary of Education Arne Duncan
with SOC students
Student engagement. Students Taryn Finley, Megan Sims, Tonesha Townsel and Daniel White made a fine showing for SOC with columnists from the Trotter Group. Joe Davidson at the Washington Post invited students to a session and reception at the Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies, and a training session and NAACP panel at the Washington Post in December. He also included students and faculty in a meeting with Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. According to Professor Yanick Rice Lamb two students attended each day, and represented SOC well by being personable, asking great questions and making insightful comments.
Congratulations to Joan C. Payne, professor and interim chair of Communication Sciences and Disorders on the completion of her book. Her book, Adult Neurogenic Language Disorders Assessment and Treatment: A Comprehensive Ethnobiological Approach provides insight on the types, prevalence and assessment of neurogenic language disorders; new technologies and therapies; and clinician resources.
