Grad Students Shine
Best wishes to Neosho Ponder and Melvin Williams, doctoral students in Communication, Cultural and Media Studies graduate program, who present their research at the National Association of African American Studies and Affiliates in Baton Rouge, February 10-13. Neosho will present "Like my Status Mom: The Use of Facebook by African American College Students to Maintain Communalism." Melvin will present "Turn Down for What? A Social Critique of Black Youth Alcohol Use and the Influence of Hip Hop Media."

Dr. Tia Tyree , SLMC, worked with one of her former students, Simona Noce, who works for a local PR agency, to set up a special media roundtable Feb. 6 for members of the HBCU student media in the
School of Communications for Kevin Hart and Regina Hall, the costars of the upcoming film About Last Night. The event provided nine students direct access to the stars to ask questions, before the Q&A session and trailer screening for the larger Howard student body.
