2019 PEN America Literary Awards - Longlist Announcement

Natalie Hopkinson
, assistant professor, whose book A Mouth is Always Muzzled, (The New Press) is on the Longlist for the PEN/Diamonstein-Spielvogel Award for the Art of the Essay. The award is for a book of essays published that exemplifies the dignity and esteem that the essay form imparts to literature, according to the release on the Longlist. Recent past winners include Ursula K. Le Guin, Angela Morales, and Ta-Nehisi Coates. Finalists will be selected in January and the award will be announced in February.

Capitol Hill Student Advocacy Day

Graduate students in the
Communication
Sciences and Disorders de
partment participated in ASHA Student Advocacy Day. The annual event in October is a time in which students from programs in the U.S. go to Capitol Hill to promote issues that impact them as students as well as professionals in the field of speech-language pathology and audiology, Martine Elieclinical director, led the group from Howard. Throughout the day our students promoted the well-being of the professions in communication sciences and disorders as well as the clients that they serve. View at:
